Thank you for sharing. It's priceless. Do your kids recall these times from 31 years ago? I'm not so lucky - I don't have voices of my parents or grandparents, and I don't have your video skills. I do have 8 mm home movies from the 1940 to 1980 time frame and have digitized 50 of them.
My kids remember this time frame quite well. We were packing my dad up to move him in with us. I wish I had taken more videos. Why didn’t I? I had that camera, but it seemed like a gimmick. A lot of work and no real way to view the videos later. (Ack. I wish to time travel!) Now for your 8mm home movies, you don’t need my video skills. You already did step 1! Digitizing is the thing a lot of people never even get around to. You’re already there. There will probably be AI tools to help you do more and more things in the next couple of years. Even now, if I put some of my videos into my apple photos, for instance, Apple will grab footage from them to mix with other photos and make little movies with music called “Memories.” I can edit those, change the music, move the footage around. But I don't have to. I could let the memories be what the AI decided to make it. And there you already have some little music videos with very little effort.
Love what you did here!
Thanks, Fred! Hope you had a fabulous weekend!
Beautifully written!
